saddlebag Cruiser What kind of motorcycle for a beginner rider?
I'm a beginner rider (no riding experience yet, but am taking a class and I'm getting a small loaner soon to practice) and am looking into a good cruiser. I mainly want to ride it around town (25-45 mph) in lieu of a car and up the highway (65 mph) about 20 miles to university. I also need it to be able to carry two people, combined weighing approximately 350 lbs. I don't want to spend much more than 7500. I'd like some extras(saddlebags, passenger backrest, etc) to come with it, preferably, but can pick up the goodies elsewhere. MPG is important. I'd like something that is relatively easy to maintain (I'm mechanically able, but not motivated), and would like a bike that would last awhile.
Please include some information about ideal engine size range, highway handling, etc.
Cruisers are a good choice for a beginner, they have a low seat, a low center of gravity so they're very manageable and easy to handle. They are statistically safer too, but I think this is because of the riding style.
If you need to go 20 miles at speed, you want something 650cc or bigger. 750 would be better. 900 would not be too big. Generally, as you might expect, smaller means better mileage, larger means more power and stamina. But a 650 can carry two people and luggage well enough.
Anything made in Japan is a good bike--reliable, well-engineered, long-lasting. All the Japanese mfgrs make cruisers, from just your regular motorcycle to get around up to highly-styled bizzaro-bikes. I'm a Honda person myself, but all the Japanese makers are good. None of them will require a lot of maintenance. You ought to be able to find a nice one, maybe not new but 1 or 2 or 3 years old with low mileage for $7500.
Harley Davidsons are very nice, actually, but way expensive. The Japanese bikes are just a better deal for the money.

my '05 heritage with twin cam 88 engine and stage 1 mods has a 5 gal tank and goes about 175-190 before i hit reserve, if i'm riding at hwy speeds. my previous bike, 91 ultra tour glide with heavily modified 80c.i. evo engine (try 130mph from a bagger fully loaded!), usually went 180- 200 before reserve on a 5 gal tank at normal cruising speeds.

Harley Davidson Dyna "Fat Bob": Why is it FXDF instead of FLDF?
FX describes Harleys with the sport (thin) front tire and FL describes the one with the fat front tire (Fat Boys and Cruisers/Baggers). The Dyna Fat Bob is the ONLY Harley with the fat tire in front and an FX designation. This is really bugging me and the dealership can't even answer this for me.
So... in 100 years, what difference will it make? Is the world going to end just because some stupid motorcycle design doesn't follow the same letter designation as the rest?
Left saddle I had a shower bench built and they a left a 1/2 gap between bench and shower saddle. What can be done to?
prevent water from accumulating in this gap? Can this gap be filled in? how should it be fixed?
I would call them back to fix it! You can't caulk an area that wide. Well you can by putting a filler strip in and then caulking with silicone caulk but I would call back whoever did it so they can fix it.

My saddle pad got wet clay dirt on it which left an orange stain. My pad says hand wash only and I know not to use soap, but will the water alone get the stain out? Can I wash in in the bath tub? Also how would I dry the pad? My pad was from Jeffers Equine and is a Micro Suede Contour Tacky Too; it is purple. Please answer only if you have experience with horses. Thank you.
I would think that you could wash in the bathtub. I would use a very small amount of something like Woolite for hand washables on it. Then, after sqeezing all the water out of it I could I would hang it over a fence or saddle rack to dry.
I've got to say though that I don't know if the clay stains can come out. I live in Georgia where red clay is everywhere and sometimes it just stains permanently. Good luck.

Not sure exactly what you are looking for I'll give it a try.
The saddle is the seat. The rear brake is the component that applies pressure to the rear wheel to stop the bike. The spoke runs from the hub to the out wheel. The pedal is where you put your feet.
