leather motorcycle saddlebags Does a motorcycle ride different when saddlebags are installed?
The main reason I am asking this is because I only have about 2300 miles of riding experience and I am taking an overnight trip so I went and bought some leather saddlebags for the trip. They should be here April 29th and I leave for the trip on May 1st so I won’t have much time to ride and get used to them.
What I am wondering is how will the bike ride differently? I am assuming that if balanced right the extra weight won’t make a big difference but I am curious about what the extra drag will do. I have a 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom.
Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me and I look forward to the ride. If anyone is going down to Panama City for bike week on the 1st let me know. We have over 100 bikes coming down from Alabama.
I have had different style of hard bags, and also used leather ones. I never noticed any difference in air drag. Actually, I hardly noticed a difference at all except if they were very heavily overloaded. A simple suspension adjustment will take care of that, just like adding a small passenger.
One of these days I'll make it down there, I want to see if a certain place still exists.

saddle bag i'd like to make a saddle bag for my friend- is there a way to that?
my friend and i are really into horseback riding. the rats at the stable ate her saddle bag so we haven't been able to go on the picnic we've wanted to. i'd really like to give her a saddle bag either for christmas or her birthday in january. saddle bags are a bit pricy and i prefer to make my gifts anyway. is there a way to make a usable saddle bag?
Try find some used ones or go to the store that sells them and look over the ready made ones. Se how they are made.
If you're wanting to use leather, go to the leather store, Tandy comes to mind, if they're still in business. You could buy all the leather and leather working tools you might need. Then punch all the necessary holes and lace them together.
Otherwise you'll need a sewing machine capable of sewing leather.
Tandy used to offer leather working classes for free, but otherwise they or any other leather working store would give you all the information you might need.
