Any answer to the "new bike" question is an opinion. Riding a motorcycle will initially involve using muscles you probably haven't used before and a VTX1300 is a big bike. Even if you are a big guy, start out with something smaller, maybe a Honda Shadow Spirit 750 or Kawasaki Custom 900.

Here's why? As I mentioned, the act of driving a motorcycle involves new muscles and many new skills. The large VTX1300 will put you at a disadvantage. Second, most newbies drop the bike in the driveway/parking lot. Its seems to be a rite of passage. Third, the smaller bike will be less of an investment. If you don't like riding or find it doesn't fit your lifestyle, less money was involved. If you decide to move to a larger bike, there's a huge market of new riders waiting to buy that first bike from you as their first bike. Good Luck and wear your gear!
