Motorcycle saddle Where do i keep my motorcycle helmet?
hauling my helmet was fun for the first couple weeks, but now its kinda inconvenient. i dont know what kind of helmet lock would work with my bike and also i dont wana buy some saddle bag or special backpack just to store it.

Honda Motorcycle dilemna?
I recently bought an older motorcycle as a project bike. Mostly it just needs a good cleaning and minor adjustments. The problem is I cannot figure out how to remove the saddle. The repair manual I bought does not give any information regarding it. The bike is a 1983 Honda VT750C shadow. Any one know anything about this. Thanks

motorcycle saddlebags how do you restore the shape of old leather?
I have a set of nice old motorcycle saddlebags that have been left in apile and have lost that original shape. How do I return the shape? I'm thinking blocking and steaming might work.
Almost - but avoid the steam or the lovely old saddle bags will shrink before your eyes!!
Try to get something that is the same dimensions as the bags. Then using warm water, soak the saddle bags in the water until no more bubbles rise to the surface. NOT hot water - just warm enough to be comfortable to put your hand in
Then, when the bags are wet insert the formers you have to try to get them back to shape.
Allow them to dry with the formers inside - then remove the formers once dry & use a good leather dressing such as Ko-Cho-Line (NOT Neatsfoot oil) to restore the leather to new condition.

Motorcycle saddle Motorcycle trip suggestions - leaving Detroit, want to go west?
I am planning a 2 week motorcycle trip on a VFR800 w/ significant other....only 2 small saddle bags. We want to head west and stay away from big sities and traffic. I think 200 or 300 miles per day may be doable......we plan to split camping and hotels.
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated....particularly on places/cities/states to visit.
I dont know of much to see East of Wyoming or Utah. I would hurry along from Detroit & get to Southern UTah as soon as possable. Check out. Bryce Canyoun Nt Park & Zion Nt Park.& Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
To really experience The Rockies you need to see the back country away from all the usual tourist traps. Forty miles from Jackson is Alpine WY. For a great adventure rent an ATV at Alpine & ride the Greys river USFS Road 138 area. The Greys River road offers beautiful scenic views, wildflowers and lots of wildlife viewing. Of the fifty some miles the last ten requires some adequate ground clearance. The road is normally open May thru October. You will come out on the Salt River Pass about twelve miles from Afton.This is a gravel road & to me gravel roads are what the rockies are all about. After visiting Yellowstone Park exit through the Northeast Entrance, which leads you to Beartooth Pass on The Beartooth Highway the section of U.S. Highway 212 between Red Lodge, Montana and Cooke City, Montana. It traces a series of steep zigzags and switchbacks, along the Montana-Wyoming border to the 10,974-foot high Beartooth Pass. The Beartooth Highway is an All-American Road that has been called "the most beautiful drive in America," by late CBS correspondent Charles Kuralt.Due to heavy snowfall at the top, the pass is usually open each year only from Memorial Day in late May through Labor Day in September. Your destination after Beartooth is Cody Wyoming. After you leave Cody head West towards East entrance to Yellowstone Park. You will leave Yellowstone Park by way of the South entrance & Grand Teton National Park & Jackson Hole Wy. Be sure and float the Snake River in a large rubber raft starting point is Jackson Wy. While in Jackson be sure to go to the Bar J Chuckwagon - Chuckwagon Supper and Western Show.

Xelement XS-689 Waterproof Touring Motorcycle Tail Bag
Where is oil leaking from my 1999 Honda 1100-cc Shadow ACE motorcycle?
I bought this ride new in 1999, but after the break-in period I failed to change the oil when due, maybe 4000 miles overdue at 8000 on the odometer. I rode the bike with my wife as a passanger from Dayton, OH to Memphis, TN and from Dayton to Virginia Beach, VA traveling mostly on the Interstate at 70 to 80 mph. When I finally remembered to change the oil, it came out very black. After the oil and filter change it began slowly leaking. I replaced the washer on the drain plug, drained and re-filled the oil again, making sure the filter gasket had a film of oil on it before tightening it, but it still leaked. Near as I can tell, it may be leaking at the oil pump gasket. I rode for awhile with four quarts of replacement oil in the saddle bags, but now I don't know if it would make it ten miles to the dealer for repairs. Service manual says removal of the sub-frame and a bunch of other parts is necessary to gain access to remove the oil pump. Any suggestions before I do this?
If there are no visible signs of oil leak such as n the ground where you leave maybe it is being used by a worn motor or because the rings are worn crankcase pressure is forcing the oil out the filler hole

Almost every state will allow you to transport a firearm if it is in a separate compartment from the driver, cased, unloaded, and separate from ammunition. Transporting it in a gun rug, in a saddlebag, with a couple of speed loaders in your pocket, will probably comply with the laws of any state. You'd better check, though.

The likelihood that you will need a handgun on your trip is extremely slim. I have been riding cross-country for over 40 years, often solo. I have never encountered a situation where I needed a handgun. However, the problem is that if you need a gun, you probably need it in a hurry. An unloaded weapon does you no good at all.
