Motorcycle saddlebag
Is it legal to carry a handgun in motorcycle saddlebags?
I'll be riding cross-country in a week or so, several relatives suggested I carry my handgun. (.38spl)
I am 20 years old.
I will keep the gun in a saddlebag at all times.
Please, no flaming!
Almost every state will allow you to transport a firearm if it is in a separate compartment from the driver, cased, unloaded, and separate from ammunition. Transporting it in a gun rug, in a saddlebag, with a couple of speed loaders in your pocket, will probably comply with the laws of any state. You'd better check, though.

The likelihood that you will need a handgun on your trip is extremely slim. I have been riding cross-country for over 40 years, often solo. I have never encountered a situation where I needed a handgun. However, the problem is that if you need a gun, you probably need it in a hurry. An unloaded weapon does you no good at all.
