custom saddlebags Has anybody changed the location of the turn signals on a V-star 650 custom?
I acquired some saddlebags, but the turn signals are in the way. I want to move them closer the brakelight. Has anybody tried to do this? I think I can put it near the license plate too, but I don't know if I can drill holes through that much metal with my crappy drill. I don't want to go to a shop to do something that I think I can do myself.
Install a set of "flush mount" turn signals to the rear of the saddle bags. It's a simple installation. They come in different colors (get one that match your bike).

Flip through the pages of this catalog to get some ideas. You can even use a flat tail light. If you use a tail light, you can wire it to work as a brake light and turn signal. Both sides will light up when the brakes are applied and only one side will blink when turning. You'll have to go to a shop to order from this catalog. I've installed them and they look great.

Restricted sale parts and custom colors?
Background: I don't want the standard HD offerring for saddlebags on my FXD35. They are too small, and I don't care for the looks. My leather bags were only a cheap "get by" thing. The project: design and fabricate a custom luggage rack/bracket to mount my old Hondaline hard bags. Paint bags Glacier White with red and blue stripes to match the bike. Add a tank bib to the back of each bag. The question for you: Does anyone have any experience when it comes to obtaining the proper colors for an Anniversary Edition, or the "restricted sale" parts like the tank bibs?
I intend to stop at the dealership when I go out visiting this Sunday. Any advance knowledge would be a help. I've got a question, and I'm going looking for the answer. I figured why not ask it? I know some people here have knowledge and good advice. Thanks for the effort. The search begins Sunday.
Firecracker....have you researched what company makes the paint for H-D? I would start with the source and get the paint code numbers etc. Surely any professional shop can reproduce the colors you are looking for on the bags.
custom motorcycle saddlebags How much is my motorcycle worth?
I have a 1996 Honda Shadow 1100cc C with 26k miles, custom seat, custom handlebars, chrome package, saddlebags, windshield, mint condition, well maintained, always garaged motorcycle. I checked the KBB and for the year and model it says $2300. But with all the customs, low mileage and condition, what would you expect to pay for this bike? Thanks for all of your help guys!
That's actually pretty high mileage in most people's eyes when it comes to motorcycles. The custom stuff doesn't add anything to the value, but that fact that it's well maintained and in great condition will go a long way. I see them selling on ebay for between $2,000 and $3,000. In this rare case, I think KBB is probably pretty close on this one. I would ask $3,000 and if you don't get any calls drop it in $250 increments until it starts to get noticed. That's a nice bike. My friend has had one since it was new and it has been totally reliable. I have ridden it many times. Good luck with your sale.

harley motorcycle parts Harley Davidson motorcycles. What actually defines a bike as one?
Is it the gas tank? The air filter cover? The frame? There are so many motorcycles that look like a Harley. Some even better and cheaper. For example, Independence makes a beautiful bike that uses mostly the same parts. Custom bike builders use the same parts. But what part makes the bike a Harley?
Primarily, it it the badge on the fuel tank. There are some bikes with Harley engines, but that does not make them a Harley. Even though HD owns Buell, many of the HD "purists" won't accept these bikes as Harleys. Then again, there are some bikes without Harley engines (such as the Aerimachi-built HD Sprint 350 - a really cool bike) that are technically Harleys also.
It is all a bit convoluted to me - just ride.
Oh, and don't buy the bit about resale. That is an old saw that doesn't fly anymore. Harleys depreciate only slightly slower than Japanese bikes these days, due to a glut on supply.

every time i go to the harley shop to buy parts for my old bike the try to get me to buy a new one , instead of being happy that someone still likes the old bikes and does what they can to keep their heritage on the road?
Money in their pocket. Keep this in mind. There are alot of smaller American bike builders that are growing everyday. Harley has to keep pumping bikes out the door to stay ahead in the money game. Every bike on the road is free advertisement as well. How many times have you been asked, "hey, where did you buy your bike?" nuff said there and Harley knows that. So, should I take Harley to court since they don't pay me for advertising? Did anyone sign a document stating that you are not to receive any monetary allowances for owning a two wheeled billboard? Hmmm something to think about.
