I have a dark palomino mare, and her tail is long and beautiful. I just bought a tail bag today to keep it looking fantastic and help it to grow longer. it's the 3 tube braiding kind.
anyways, my question is: the tail bag itself is red (made out of a nylon-y material) will it turn her tail different colors if it got wet??? i was planning on putting it thru a rinse cycle to be sure, but on the back half of her pasture there is a creek, and i would hate for her tail to be stained pinkish red!!
any advice???
Nope It shouldn't bleed through! 2 of my horses have white tails and pink tail bags and it never turned there tail a diffrent color.

Ideas to grow a thick, long, healthy tail?
I ride hunter/jumpers. Is there anything I can do to grow and keep my horse's tail long, thick and healthy WITHOUT putting it in a tail bag? I know to handle it as LITTLE as possible, and leave-in conditioner is also a good idea. Right now I hardly ever brush it, and once a week I condition it with Ethnic hair care oil. But is there much else I can do? I would love my horse to have a tail I can show off a little.
Rub MTG into the dock skin twice a week. It has sulfur and oil and it stimulates hair growth. I've heard that dipping the tailbone in cold water daily will also stimulate growth. Seems very unpleasant for the horse, especially in cold weather.
